Abominable Puffy Winter Bags

What is up with all these puffy ski parka bags? As if bulk is what I need more of when it comes to what I am carrying around all day. And does it keep you warm? Cuz my wallet and phone certainly have never complained about inclement weather. It not only makes no sense, it is downright U-G-L-Y!!! It is the most unflattering bag you can possibly wear, I mean, it's pretty ridiculous when your bag is making you look fat. Hello, I have plenty of things that make me look fat and my bags are the only things I have to rely on to take the focus away from my not-as-flat-as-it-was-when-I-was-23 tummy. The Moncler bag is really really giant and really really puffy and overstuffed! The interior still has plenty of room for your stuff but that actually makes thing worse, imagine what this looks like all filled up??!! That is absolutely ludicrous and beyond irrational for a bag design. It is leather which adds injury to insult because it is the reason for the $1125 price tag (at Browns Fashion). The Prada nylon puffer is slightly more streamlined but it is still unbelievable puffy, hard to wear and just plain stupid. The nylon is "crispy" which means it is stiffer than normal nylon and makes a lot of noise as it swishes around at your side. The only redeeming quality is that the aquamarine is pleasant, not that that makes a difference for this bag though. $760 at Bergdorf Goodman.

  • wow bag snob kelly, these bags are atrocious! ugh, as if the nylon prada's weren't bad enough.

  • I totally understand what you mean about the Moncler, but for the prada I do not agree. This bag is not more puffy than any of their bag....maybe if you look at the picture it look like it, but it's because of the quilted material. I do have a crispy nylon bag at home, and sorry girls but it doesn't make any noise.

  • I remember the Moncler Fendi Spy from a couple of years ago. The bag was so...puffy. And ugly. And useless. Unless you were carrying a very small dog. But would you put your dog in a Fendi Spy? And why were they charging so much money for a bag that was made from a ski parka? I couldn't agree with you more. Ugly and silly.

  • I agree with Ava - the Moncler is revolting, but the Prada bag can be a nice accessory to a casual winter outfit.

  • Actually both of these bags could work on Swiss Alps with a matching coat if there is snow.

  • yes i'm not sure why certain designers make puffy bags in the winter.

  • I'm with you, Kelly. But I think Prada sold out long ago.

  • wow...i'm shocked that people actually like these bags. if your wallet and lip gloss are really that cold, why not buy a fur bag? at least it would have some snob appeal!

  • Girls and Guys, the Moncler is a puffy bag made of goosedown....the prada one is not!! It is actually a new bag for the cruise line so there is absolutely no relation with ski or mountain snow...go compare both in store and you'll see the difference.

  • good observation ava, but there still is no excuse to be carrying an aquamarine quilted nylon bag (which you have to admit is reminiscent of a ski parka) that costs $760 just because it has a prada label on it. being a part of the resort collection only makes this tote more ridiculous. it's hideous and you wasted your money. if it’s any consolation, the fact that it’s not stuffed with goose down feathers, makes it a slightly less embarrassing purchase than the moncler.

  • I believe your way of thinking James can definitely apply to any handbag on the market. I do know the prada bag doesn't cost more than 50$ to produce and they are selling it 760. But if you start to think about the no logo bags like Chanel, Hermes or Bottega, the profit margins are as high if not higher. Do you really think that when you pay 12 000 or 24 000 for a hermes or chanel bag you pay only for the amazing quality?? The luxury market is all about status and marketing, we should stop lying to ourserlves in this war of handbags. We all pay for the design, the primary idea, the work and the advertising...paying 760 or 8200. There is a shop that has been making handsome crocodile bags in my town for a long time and they are selling it for 2000...not 24 000. So don't say I lost my money...I did pay for something I did agree to buy...after all every company is all about profit first. By the way prada nylon bag are resistant, light and waterproof...that's why I do prefer them sometimes to all my leather bags...especially in the cold winter

  • yeah, i definitely agree with you ava. it's truely ridiculous how much bags are starting to cost! i just payed 10k for a croc that i'm sure can't be worth more than 2k...but that's the luxury market for you. i'm just glad that i'm not in to cars. that could really get expensive!

  • I am devestated. I bought one of these about 2 months ago. I love it. Now that Bag Snob has dissed it, how can I hold my head up? I have never liked the Prada nylon stuff until I saw this one. It's my major purchase of the year. It's the most comfortable bag i've ever had. This is no way to start a Monday morning. oh dear....

  • Dear MA

Of course you can hold your head up! You have your own individual style and taste, if you are rocking this bag and love it, then wear it proudly!

Please do not let this ruin your day.

    xoxo
