In response to our story about Cameron Silver's Hermes bag, a reader sent us a picture of bags Pharrell had made. Look at the monster of a HAC (the original birkin) and in purple croc no less!! How over the top fabulous is that? And so fitting for the new hip hop mogul. My only question is, what is he going to do with it? I am guessing this is a travel bag but still, it must be quite weighty. He is seen here in the Paris workshop where he went to pick up the bag.
Bag Snob Tina note: Gross, I am forever turned off to purple crocodile because of this garish and giant bag with a keychain by Jacob the jeweler (is he still in jail?). Hermes or not, it's tacky! And if this was not taken at the Paris workshop I would have thought it was fake.
Great photo! Kelly, I'm curious, having only seen the Birkin in photos, how much do they typically weigh? BTW, I just finished reading Dana Thomas' DELUXE, and her description of how Hermes bags are constucted made me want one of my own -- not that it's even in the realm of possibility where my budget is concerned!
Where did they find a gator so big and with perfect scales?! Only Hermes can pull that off.
I think the purple large Birkin is quite fun. Wondering what the price would be.. I have no intension of getting one,but wouldn´t mind if someone does.
this is what came to mind reading yesterday's post about the make-your-own hermes... what's keeping people from making totally hideous ones? just because you have $11,000+ doesn't mean you know how to design a decent bag.

OMG - Hermes was about discreet good taste, well that's gone out of the window, gross! I love my manbags (Cameron's was nice), but this grotesquery on any man (straight or gay) is a complete turnoff!

OK, this is strange but, I wonder if he actually took both bags, or left the orange one behind. Today, a 50cm (20 inch) orange Birkin "travel tote" popped up for sale on reputable fashion retail site (note, NOT eBay). I have never ever seen a Birkin come up for sale on this site (although they have sold other Hermes bags and products).The bag was (what I thought was) an unusual size, orange and looked exactly like the one in this photo. I wonder if Pharrel decided not to take the orange "special order" bag and Hermes sent it for resale to this website. It sold this morning for $7,560. The weight was 7lbs. if anyone is wondering. I was so shocked to see it, that I printed out the page from the website to show my husband.
Even if Audrey Hepburn carried this it would be hideous. Bright colors look cute in little bags, but a giant bag in purple? Gag!!!

I totally agree, it doesnt mean if you BUY /own expensive designer stuff shoes or bags especially Hermes, it will makethem stylish or part of the "in" crowd...

This is hideous. It's just so big and gaudy! Unforgivable! Even for Hermes. And I agree, NO ONE can pull it off, especially not Miss Tacky Posh herself.

Posh would definitely use this as lugguage. One would look pretty ridiculous using this as an everyday bag
Taste is not determined by your bank account. It definitely helps - no question about that, but I couldn't disagree more. Money doesn't buy great style... in most cases too much of it leads to gaudyness - yuck!

I don't really know.... I think the bag is sickeningly over the top.... But then again it has a charm since it is so over the top.... I think since it is so quirky and tacky I would like to own one.. but I would probably never carry it... My mom has had Birkins since the very late eighties....and she is in love with this bag..
