YSL Muse Clutch

Kelly and I love shopping (I guess you have noticed by now), we are quite good at it and after 20 years of shopping together we are also quite efficient! From New York, Paris, LA, Hong Kong to remote cities in Southern China, no one navigates around a boutique the way we do! Today was one of those great shopping days where everything went our way and many treasures were found. We spent two hours at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills (forsaking a proper lunch and grabbing a salad in the cafe as to not waste time) and another two hours on Rodeo Dr. at our favorite boutiques, YSL, Chanel, Hermes etc.

At YSL, we found the yummiest bags on sale including an olive ostrich bag that was reduced to $3500 from $5900 (which we talked each other out of buying because it kind of resembled a load of bread). But we found a gorgeous clutch that we both had to have (it was not on sale but isn't that always the case?)- The Muse clutch in silver/gray Tupinambi lizard skin. Everything about it is delirious perfection! The size (around 8x4), the skin (gorgeous lizard scales dyed in varying shades of silver and gunmetal gray), the perfect stitching and the iconic muse clasp (which totally makes the clutch). We talk about classic pieces all the time and I can't think of another more classic and gorgeous clutch than this! We usually have very different tastes but this one stole both our hearts.

$1,195 (quite reasonable for an exotic skin) Call Fatima at (310) 271-4110. There are also a lot of boots and shoes on sale but if you are anything like us, you'll probably fall in love with pieces not on sale.

Saks Fall Sale Rocks!!

dior_pythonpumps.pngAre you having as much fun as we are with all these sales? With sluggish sales figures reported so far for this year, retailers are starting sales early and it looks like it's all the good stuff, too! These are the bags we have been salivating over but couldn't justify so now that it's on sale, no need to justify! The Zac Posen Antonia Patent Shoulder Bag in my favorite color, purple, has to be the best buy of the sale season. It is now $840 down from $1200. And trust me, the purple trend will continue. We are seeing big colors for Spring so you're totally safe with this here.

The Ferragamo Laser Cut Patent Tote isn't something that I would consider full priced but $875 from $1250 sure changes the tune. They have done an amazing job making the bags younger and I'm telling you, I see cute young girls with Ferragamo all the time now!! It is an iconic brand so there is not much risk in being seen with one. This giant tote, 22" X 13", is great for those who need to haul the world around with you (I am guilty of this now that I have 2 kids). I love this green, it is totally luscious and in the distressed patent it is neutral yet bold. I also love the thick braided handles. For all that, I can even deal with the laser cut logo. I was in love with this Jimmy Choo Kaaren Clutch from the start. Perfect timing now that it's on sale with the holiday parties you'll be attending. But you'll be using this beyond the cocktails and finger food, this is a keeper! Was $995, now only $696.50.

Ohhh, Tina is not going to like seeing these Dior Python pumps go on sale because I know she bought this at full price. She is all about instant gratification so I guess she pays for being able to have it. These are the ultimate in lux shoes, like a museum piece!! On sale for $840, was $1200.

Carlos Falchi Matte Croc Clutch

carlosfalchi_fuchsiaclutch.png

carlosfalchi_closeup.pngThis may seem snobby even for us to have a $1365 bag as a Cheap Thrills but trust me I have good reason. First of all, we all love the flash and glamour of croc but shelling out multiple thousands on a bag makes everyone think twice (yes, even the Bag Snobs). With Carlos Falchi you can get a second grade croc for a fraction of the price. You make concessions, like how it's all pieced together with really bad stitching, but in a color like fuchsia, who's gonna notice? Well, we would but you still get props just for having a croc! I do like how the tail piece is used in the center as a focal point. Normally the tail is not preferable but to use the cheap part and make it a point of interest is really smart. I mean, that's a really good way to make a croc for under $2000. I like that it's matte because in a bright color and shiny would be way too much. Matte is also younger and more modern. The color is so great for the holidays and for Resort! It's all about fuchsia now so you can be on top of your game and save some money for your Chanel (you will see why tomorrow!). You can get this at Neiman Marcus.

Celestina Cracked Mirror Clutch

This is for the serious collector who views bags as works of art and not merely accessories. Celestina is known for eclectic bags that may not fit in the daily scheme of life but has its place as a treasure to be used on special occasions. The cracked mirror clutch is so unique and stunning that it should be displayed when not used! It is not leather so won't wear out with age, a quick polish once in a while and it will retain its splendor for years. It is lined in micro suede and has magnetic closure to keep the lines of the silver tiled clutch clean. I have a friend who is an Art broker, she would love this little jewel! Celestina Cracked Mirror Clutch $1130 at Vivre.

Nuti Ostrich Tote

I absolutely love Nuti, their styles, skins and quality is exactly what Bag Snob looks for in a must have, but this bag suddenly brought that to a screeching halt! At first glance, this tote jumped out and filled me with desire, the shape is adorable and the grey is divine and of course, ostrich is my favorite. But on closer inspection, I noticed that the skin is from the part of the bird that is missing the bumps, so the entire side of the bag is inconsistent with the smooth parts. Also, the handles seem disproportionately small for the size and shape. It has a 5 1/2" drop on the handles, uh... that doesn't even make it past my underarm. It will fit under Tina's arm but she's the size of a 10 year old. And this is a 18 1/2" bag!! What sense does that make for a tote? And then I see that the flap is not functional, it looks like that's how you would get in the bag but it is just a style feature, and not even a good one. The bag still has the beautiful ruthium hardware and lush orange suede lining that I love but if that's all it has going for it, then who cares? I'm not sworn off Nuti, they still have amazing pieces for Spring that I cannot wait to review but I thought this was the one line that could do no wrong but I guess there is no designer that strikes gold every time. And at $4100 it is the highest priced Nuti bag. Available at Saks if you can get over all the flaws, I mean, like I said, the shape and color are great.

'Tis the Season of Golden Clutches

I love the holidays, the sight of homes trimmed in golden light make me feel fuzzy and warm all over and brings back happy childhood memories. Remember the day your dad would pull out the Christmas lights? That was an indication that Santa was not far behind with loads of presents! Though I no longer wait for Santa's arrival, I do eagerly await the arrival of gorgeous golden holiday bags. Top of the list is the hammered gold leather clutch with a wooden ring trim at the top from Anya Hindmarch. I simply adore the distressed leather contrasted with the wood details. It brings an earthy element to the bag and gives it a unique touch. It also has ruched detailing, a pouch pocket on the inside and a suede lining. Get Anya Hindmarch Lulu leather clutch here- $895.
