After a week of beaded, pleated and sometimes over embellished, it was absolutely refreshing to see a collection of sleek and pretty clothes from Luca Luca. Don't get me wrong, I love fancy and glamorous clothes but what I need for everyday are easy pieces that allow me to live my life. Clothes to wear while lunching, shopping or doing the multiple errands I do to keep my world spinning and that is exactly what Luca Orlandi offered for Spring 2008.
Modern stained glass was the inspiration for the collection; organic and geometric shapes were fused into the prints while construction and silhouette with color effects were achieved through transparencies of chiffon. Body skimming dresses like the blush embroidered wool and mauve washed silk shangtung dress allow for a modern but soft silhouette that is both feminine and flattering. A violet printed silk chiffon top paired with silk skirt provide a polished fluid ease and would also work with a pair of great jeans for a casual night out. Of course a girl will need a few standout gowns as the social season starts and a mauve silk full length number with enameled beadwork fits the bill. All in all, a modern and chic collection that will see plenty of wear on the streets but may not make the editorials for lack of drama but really, who wants clothes that you can't actually wear and feel comfortable in?
