Shine it on with Marni!
By Bag Snob Tina
August 27, 2007

Continuing my love and obsession with all things Marni, here are the latest versions of its iconic patent balloon bags. If you obsessed over them last season but couldn’t get your hands on one, you now have a chance to pick up one of the lovely updated versions for Fall! The brown patent leather version is the same bubbly cute shape that Marni fans will love but I predict the dark purple is the one that will garner the most attention this season. Call it the grown up version of the balloon, modified for your cooler than thou older sister who always seems to carry off the latest looks with flair. Purple patent? No problem! She’ll toss it on with her Thomas Wylde leather jacket and contrasting boots and no one will dare question her! The girl I am referring to is Eva, Kelly’s older sister (I claim her as mine as well even though I am a month older than her) who lives on the Lower East Side and who we call a rebel of style. I saw her last week and she was sporting metallic green nailpolish, did it look crazy? Hell yeah, but she carries it off with panache.

Marni Patent leather tote in dark purple is $1,434 and the Marni Small balloon tote in brown is $1,200.

Hey,this Marni brown is nearly the same shade as the previous Valentino brown bag.I find myself liking this one too.The model is more casual and easy to grab along than the Valentino ,but both are desirable.Maybe it is the special brown shade that attracts me today.

Lovely, the dark purple in particular (I have a general aversion to brown). I love how they’re fancy and semi-structured but casual at the same time. Very nice. The corner details and casual straps make them bags.

Love the purple-it’s different without being weird! And the option of using either the handle or the strap is always a plus in my book.

I like both of these bags, especially the brown one. Which is odd, because this hue of brown could be considered very ugly. But when it comes to Marni, ugly seems to be beautiful and interesting. A cute clutch of this same shade caught my attention too, though with contradictory feelings (Marni, of course).

Oh…I forgot to add a few tips to those who are also eyeing the purple ballon bag.

It’s way sweeter in real life than in the picture!

Also the leather is more a brown, greyish tone, rather than a pure grey tone. This actually works out better because I think grey leather can look cheap at times.
