dailysuite.jpg
Yours truly will be attending Fashion Week in New York city for the Spring 2008 shows next week. I am excited to see all the shows and have been receiving invitations all week for some of the best designers in the tents! (Vera Wang and Tuleh featuring Jada Loveless bags being the two shows I am most looking forward to!) In between the shows I will be hanging out at the Daily Suites in Bryant Park Hotel. Cygalle Healing spa is offering free organic treatments at the suite and I have signed up for reflexology and energy healing to keep get me through the 5-6 shows a day I plan on seeing!

Bottega Blonde

Bottega Veneta at Saks Fifth Avenue

The Blonde frame bag by Bottega Venetta is the perfect example of Creative Director Tomas Maier's low key approach to design. Simple, chic and beautifully made, this is for the serious handbag collector. The retro modern lines are further emphasized by the futuristic looking lock and clochette, it is one of those pieces that will still look current 10 years from now and will make you looked polished no matter what you wear. It may not inspire knock offs like the trendy Paddingtons and the Fendi B bags but that to me is a good thing, I don't want my bags being sold on Canal Street in Chinatown for $20. Of course the signature Bottega touch is there in the braided handle and meticulous craftsmanship. Unexpected touches are the tonal studding and black patent accents, all of which add to this magnificent bag. You can not go wrong with a Bottega bag and you certainly won't with a Blonde on your arm! $2640 at Saks.

Furla Gisele Shopper

This is for furlagirl, one of our first supporters! Furla Giselle Shopper is the kind of easy totes you leave by your front door to grab without a thought. It's 13.5" wide so it is a great size for Bag Snob of all sizes. The light metallic leather makes it a neutral to go with whatever you are wearing and the chevron stitching lends the current vibe of the season but is also a classic so you won't be embarrassed to be seen with it a few seasons from now. Furla is a great brand for those who crave designer luxury without the high prices. It's huge in Europe and Asia but has yet to catch on in the United States. Why not grab one and try for yourself? You'll love the versatility of this perfectly sized bag and the reasonable price, $415 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Ferragamo Gancio Banshee

Ever since Graeme Black (formerly with John Galliano and Armani) joined Ferragamo as head designer, the house that revolutionized shoes was back on the scene with a fresh collection of bags. No longer your bitty granny's handbag collection, Ferragamo's recent designs have been cutting edge and quite funky. Just look at this hobo, void of buckles and chains, it is totally hip and young with interesting woven leather details. The color is so great for Fall, it is a soft muted chocolate and works like a black bag without being a black bag. This shape is also not a typical hobo, it is a cross between a bucket and hobo. I love how it hangs so close to the shoulders, it makes the slouchy style less sloppy. Now for the downers, the pockets on the sides are great but are too deep for them to be a real time saver when it comes to finding tiny knick knacks. But the bigger issue I have is with the giant perforated Gancini logo in the front. Yes, it is subtle and is not a gold plaque, but still, it bothers me. Of course that is just us who like all our stuff sans logos. If you are loving the new look at Ferragamo, you better jump on it because Graeme just left the company last week to focus on his own collection. At Neiman Marcus for $1350.

Alexander McQueen Frame

Alexander McQueen really has it going on! I absolutely need this bag, it is chic and classic with a bit of fun. It looks like a vintage frame bag with the slightly distressed mcqueen_frame_taupe.pngleather and pleating but the balloon shape, hardware and way the handles are attached make it modern and young. This bag is ultra versatile even though it is pretty big, 17" x 14.5" x 4" deep, but the style can handle any night scene (as long as it is not the dance floor). It can also dress up with a sleek lady-like dress or get down and dirty with jeans. This will be one of those stand out pieces that people remember you by! Also available in a taupey brown but I hate it, it is a tired old useless color for me and totally ruins the coolness of the bag. At Matches Fashion for $1570.

MS by Martine Sitbon

This shimmering metallic silver bag caught my eye while I was browsing around, something about the simplicity of design but brilliance of color and size greatly appealed to me. Now this is a giant bag, one that is way too big for my daily use but perfectly sized for a travel bag on weekend trips or for a girl who is 6' tall (like one of my best friends in LA, Corinne, the gorgeous supermodel turned supermom). I am excited to see a bag from French Moroccan designer Martine Sitbon, once the designer of choice for chic Euro girls who love bold color and dramatic silhouettes, but has been absent from the scene due to financial difficulties. This Fall marks a big come back for the designer, one which is overdue (and having lost the rights to her own name she presented under "Rue de Mail"). Now that you have a brief history of the designer, let's get back to this fabulous metallic bag. There are no labels nor monograms but it's not boring either, the use of straps and stitching give the bag plenty of style and function. The skin is a thick pebbled lambskin so it is soft but sturdy enough to withstand years of use, I can see this fading to a gorgeous distressed silver in a few years making this a worthy investment. The price is also very reasonable, $450 at Vivre.com

Smythson Mara Clutch

smythsonmara.jpg
Remember our excitement over Smythson of Bond Street's new line of bags? Now we have something else to tempt your wallet with, the absolutely darling chocolate Mara clutch in supple calf leather stamped croc. This is a great opportunity for you to get the all important exotic look this season for a very small price, $795 to be exact. I have this clutch in sunny yellow ostrich and let me tell you the construction of the clutch is every bit as meticulous (if not more so) as Smythson of Bond Street stationery goods. From the impeccable stitching to each carefully crafted corner, every detail is perfection. The pale gold engraved Smythson clasp is perfectly in sync with the design of the clutch, not overpowering but makes a statement. I also love that it is a roomy and structured clutch (10.5" x 5"), allowing plenty of room for your wallet, cell and make up bag for a proper night out or luncheon. Should you get tired of clutching it around, you can slip the removable chain out and carry it on your shoulder. Voila, two fab looks for the price of one. Did I mention it is only $795? Trust me, it is as close as you will get to crocodile skin without shelling out thousands of dollars, it is that well made (and it should satisfy you wild animal lovers who chastise us regularly for promoting the use of crocodile and python skins). Besides, everyone knows what a snob I am, would I be seen with this bag if it is anything less than extraordinary? Available at Smythson of Bond Street worldwide or online.
