Fendi Patent and Latex bubble bag

I don't know about you but this patent and latex bag looks to me like it belongs in the dollar bin at Wal Mart instead of a $1500 Fendi bag sold at Barneys. Imagine carrying a bag made of latex... do you really want to smell like a condom all day long? A giant latex bag at that, it is listed as 40" wide, so it's almost a four foot wide bag! At first I thought it was an error but then saw that it is 29" long, making it almost a 4ft x 3ft bag. I guess this was made for prostitutes who have to carry changes of clothes, wigs, weapons and whatever else they need for their trade. And look at those gross bumpy bubbles on the latex(or is that patent? don't know which part is which, it's all so hideous) I know I have been all into patent leather but this bag just made me want to cancel every single order I have made for fall. The only patent leather bags I currently own are the Valextra Boston in nude patent and white patent Chanel 2.55, both will stay permanently in the Bag Snob collection. The rest, not so sure. Leave it to Fendi to take the look of the season and make it as ugly as possible. $1,580 at Barneys New York.

  • You are so right - not every patent bag is created equal. However, you shouldn't forsake all else based on that monstrosity. Your entry about the Tod's Besonville in patent made me scope out their new fall collection. I usually browse right by the D-bag; they are a bit plain. However, this season they have turned out a version in pebbly grained patent leather. The texture of the high quality leather keeps the patent from looking cheap or too plastic slick. And the patent gives the bag a much needed oomph. Keep up the excellent blog.

  • Wow. That is so sad looking! They could have done something innovative with the patent and latex combo instead of aping a leather bag. It could have been a fun shape-- maybe even with some fringes on it; anything would be better than what they got going on here...

  • 4 foot wide and 3 foot tall?! I thought that only garbage sacks come in those proportions. And the whole concept of latex bubbles is just foul. It's just skanky.

  • The mere description of the bag suggested it would be a mess. And low and behold, when I scrolled down to see the bag, it was.

  • "do you really want to smell like a condom all day long?"

Best Bag Snob line EVER. Racy not tacky and a perfect observation!

Tina, were you on the cover of the DBU alum magazine this month? I got mine and as soon as I saw the cover thought- she looks like Tina from Bag Snob!!

    Love this site!

Hi Andrea, Yes, that was me! Though I am a USC Alum, I was an Honorary co-chair for a DBU event honoring Congressman Sam Johnson.

  • Bag Snob Tina, you make some of the funniest comments. I break out in laughter here at work whenever I read you or Kelly's "on the rag" comments. I'll start laughing and my co-worker will stick her head around the corner and say, "what are you doing? People have been committed for less." That being said, you and Kelly seem to be very anti-Fendi, when it comes to bags anyway - and I fully agree when it comes to the classic Zucca print anything, and this current monstrosity. Do you or Kelly own any Fendi bags? Have you ever owned one?

  • Ok Tina. Should i cancel my pre-order on the Anya Hindmarch naplak doctor bag in navy and black patent? Have you seen this purse live? On the computer screen it looks a little funky with the blue. Is it an electric blue or a dark navy blue? Help. Sara

  • Sara- that is one bag you need to keep- as I am keeping mine. The navy blue suede will actually tone down the black patent shine. I saw it in person in New York during show and it was fabulous! xo

  • Hahaha! You guys are so funny! Too bad its latex, because the shape isn't bad. If it were patent with suede or leather with python...it'd be so cute.

  • I will keep it on order, not supposed to ship until late Sept. early October anyway. One more question. I just bought the miu miu nappa lux tote in color cera (which means wax in Italian) they tell me it's brand new for Fall 2007. It is a beautiful ivory/cream color. I still have the tags on it. Should i keep for Fall or take it back? Have you seen this bag in the cream color? Is it ok to wear this color in the fall/winter? What is the best way to wear this color bag? With contrasting colors? Thanks in advance. Sara

  • what about people who are allergic to latex? i assume it's just as much of a problem as condoms/gloves. can you imagine bumping into someone by accident and having them break out in hives?!

  • The black bubbles look like strips of the bubble wrap used for packing. I love popping those, but definitely don`t want them on my bag!

  • I LOVE BAGSNOB TINA AND BAGSNOB KELLY!

  • Sara,
Cream or winter white is lovely to wear in the Fall/winter! You must keep the Miu Miu bag. It is incredibly chic to use a cream bag in the dead of winter when everyone else is in drab black or brown :)

    Tina

  • Oh no you didn't! I could channel my inner dominatrix and find some use for that bag, but I did crack up thinking about all the times I've been asked about latex allergies by health care workers. That bag could be used as a murder weapon.

  • This is why I know I like this website. You guys are very honest on what you think is hot. When you read fashion magazines, they go ga ga over every single bag that appears on their pages (paid to do that?). I love your honesty, and smarts to say "ugly".
