The "Race" bag from Gucci wins fugliest bag of the week! I know Kelly just ragged on the Gucci Indy the other day and we try not to brutalize the same designer back to back but I saw this and had to post it for everyone to have a good TGIF laugh. Look at this ridiculous excuse of a bag, aside from the fact that it's a smorgasbord in design and doesn't know what kind of bag it wants to grow up to be (suede, mirror, patent, tassels, bamboo detail, metal plates, studs, you name it, it's got it!), it looks impossible to carry. I'd like to know how you're supposed to carry a 20"W x 16"H bag with those tiny handles. You at least need a long shoulder strap to harness around your body to balance that kind of size and weight don't you? And who'd be caught dead wearing Gucci bags these days anyway? It lost more than a Creative Director with Tom Ford's departure, Gucci lost it's sexy-chic-cool charm and any sense for design and taste. I certainly can't remember the last time I carried a Gucci bag or even walked in a Gucci store.
What about these canvas monogram bags they won't stop assaulting us with in multiple shapes and sizes? I personally find the GG monogram revolting, I mean it's about as banal as the Coach canvas logo but costs three times more so I don't know why anyone bothers with it. And really, it's even worse than the LV monogram if that's possible. Phew, now that I've unloaded, I feel much better. Don't you? Have a good weekend everyone!

Feel exactly the same abt Gucci. My Gucci bags are probably moldy by now, ha ha ha.
OMG!! What were they thinking when they made this!! And these people get paid to do this??
This logo bag with the white harness straps is hideous. I see it at the mall on tacky looking woman all the time, the same ones with the acrylic nails and loads of make up.
I'm having a hard time deciding if the Indy bag or the Race bag is more atrocious.
How do you feel about guccissima leather?
i'm so over with gucci that i seriously want to sell them for good.....I miss the time when I actually thought gucci was cool...they have been far too disappointing for a prolonged period of time
I was thinking the same thing bout Gucci ... they are losing the elegant touch ... I am not an expert but maybe after Tom Ford left ??!?
While I do think that the "Race" bag is hideous, I quite like the monogram pelham. I am not that into monogram bags, but ironically that is one of the few bags that I do like in the monogram. Not in that color, but the darker chocolate color. And I purchased the pelham in the congnac leather, which I think is beautiful. But yes, fugly just doesn't cut it to describe the "Race".
I was in Asia and there was a line outside Gucci. No sale, just hoards of people waiting to buy the latest GG canvas bags. They were EVERYWHERE! Gucci doesn't need us, there are a billion Chinese people willing to buy.
Wow the 'race' bag is so ugly. I still have a couple of Gucci logo bags I love, a Gucci Brit Tote that I can just throw everything in, and the Gucci jackie'o in a gold trim which was a ltd. edition. But agree Gucci has definitely lost it's charm.
Gucci just isn't the same post Tom Ford.... It used to be that you could walk in and couldn't decide what to buy because you wanted several things. Now you go in and wander around wondering who is coming up with the stuff????
Frida Giannini said that the Gucci she's trying to make now is a departure from the hard-edge, steely and sexy image Tom Ford tried to sell at Gucci.
It's true that Tom Ford was vulgar sometimes (who remembers the pubic hair ad he did for the Italian house?) But I do admit, he did make REALLY FABULOUS BAGS.
I think it's a good thing that Gucci is less-sexed up than before, but why oh why do you have to make HORRENDOUS bags! This spring summer is a disaster, and looking at the fall winter at Style.com, I think fellow bagsnobs will still continue not to visit any Gucci stores this coming season. And it used to be my favorite designer.
I don't care how vulgar Tom Ford was, he never wouldhave allowed these hideous bags to be made. and Frida Gianini is not all that, she lacks creativity and originality.
Look what StefanoPilati has done with YSL! great bags galore to boot!
I agree with bag snob, Gucci is dead.
Gucci was Tom Ford he saved Gucci from bankruptcy going from 300 million dollar company to a multi-billion dollars company. Tom Ford was the same as Gianni versace, once they die the company dies with them.
I agree with that, I'm so over with Gucci. I have to say i am only 23 and I own a small Gucci from my teen...
I didn't say I hated Tom Ford. In fact, I loved his designs. When I said vulgar, I was saying it, as a matter of fact.
I used to be a Gucci regular, and now, I barely go there. I go there to reminisce (I miss the bullet bag).
Anyway, did anyone see the new Gucci Cruise for 2008 in style.com? Well, it's another disappointment... It seems Gucci wants to be consistent with something.
When Tom Ford was there and Frida was the accessories designer he at least gave her direction. Vulgar as he is, he really had an eye for bags and accessories.
I was at the Gucci store in San Diego... went in to see what was new...had not been in for a while. I actually saw a woman pick up this bag and think about purchasing it. I did not stay long enough to see if it went home with her, but the store was empty and they had a ton on sale... not suprising, since none of it was the least bit cute.
I was dubious about the gucci Pelham bag when I saw it online, but when I saw it in person, it seems much prettier. I ended up buying it.
I adore vintage gucci, red and green stripes, grey logos. Lately they've been lacking in class but I have worn out my vintage boston bag so much, I need another one!
