Size Matters

Actual size of YSL Downtown Mini

We're annoyed with monstrously large bags that sleep parties of 5 but what about the opposite end of the spectrum? Baby bags so tiny that only monopoly money will fit inside are just as useless. Our Guest Editor, the Bag Wh*@# (Real life fashion editor of one of our favorite magazines!), reports:

The other day, I almost took a tinkle in my La Perlas because of something I saw. The Downtown patent YSL bag is being produced in mini size...so your pocket-sized Olsen-esque friend or spoiled toddler can carry her very own. I don't think they were thinking of MK and Ashley but whoever is under five feet, hates big satchels and wants the fashion can stop complaining because YSL has the bag for you. It's completely sick and wrong -it's only about four dollars less than the mid size or xtra large versions. It turns out that Marc has minis on Mercer too. And you know you can get L'il Louis Speedys and baby Birkins that fit in your palm. What's going on here? Everyone's so....adjustable an accommodating....I'm not sure I like that. The Bag Wh*@# doesn't want to ever be common or pedestrian.

Speaking of strange bags-did you hear that Paris Ho-ton and Nicole Bitchie will be gracing a Harper's Bazaar cover shortly? Will that SELL? Who cares other than Samantha Thavasa? I'm sure there will be some stirring and shaking but the Bag Wh*@# is too much of a lady to discuss rumblings in someone's trousers. I guess I'm suppose to know this but who the hell IS Samantha Thavasa? The stuff is neither witty, drop dead gorgeous or chic. They're barking! Get rid of these two. Am I alone here?

  • It can be used as an ultra-luxurious coin purse (sans zipper -_-")...but who would buy this non-functional thing for just $5 under a sensible size one?

Love the article. Please get an editor.

Harper's Bazaar - Right! Well done!
La Perla's - Wrong. That is plural not possessive.

Bag Whore... Andrea is a fan of your writing but not your grammar... she has offered her services twice to you now. Perhaps our fashion editor needs a copy editor? I thought I caught it all last night but apparently I missed a few!

I saw a mini Givenchy nightingale today and it was so small I couldn't get my hands through the handles and you all know how tiny I am, if it's too small for me who can use it?

    xoxo

  • By doing this to their bags, high end labels, such as YSL and Givenchy, have secondarily diminished the lure and overall fabulousness of their real life, real sized, versions. I'm not so in love with the Nightingale right now, given that piece of information.
    Ugh!

NO that can not be the actual size, when I first read it I did not think it was to scale. That is just so funny!!!!

Hahah, no, it's not exactly to scale but it is really close :)

In response to those who wish to edit the Bag Whore:

I appreciate the second or third shout out I had received here about editing me...I am so interested in the...passion. The Bag Whore is on a Blog and does not want to speak like a scholar, or even a proper editor-obviously. It’s too pedestrian! I speak from my heart, my soul. I speak like a dolphin-which is how most people in fashion speak. So, if we were underwater...you wouldn't really have a problem understanding me-think Day of the Dolphin. "Fa-Lo-Pa"...that sounds like a designer from Paris, no? I write it like we’re having a conversation...I seem to be highly entertaining and I’m actually amusing myself and some of the other peeps who have commented...so, turn the channel? Lighten up? Think...”The Hills” and then we can be on same page....

  • In response to the comment about the Hilton sisters... you are absolutely right. They do not belong on the cover of Harpers, the Editor in Cheif should be ashamed.

  • I don't mean to be rude, but who *does* read the Bazaar? I haven't read it since before that one blonde chick (you know, that one girl, maybe four years ago?) was editor.

    Sigh.

    Tiny bags? Hilton sisters?
Can you say "appeal to the masses?"
    Is that what we want?

  • I am with Meg q - I used to read it, until totally ridiculous people (aka Paris Hilton) and Katie Holmes (hello, she married science geek Tom Cruise) were put on the cover. It is paper thin and totally pointless. DON'T BUY IT!
