Gucci Python Man Bag

First of all, yes, this is in fact a bag for men. It's actually really nice, the hardware and the brown python are all good things but I really wondered, what man would actually use this? And what would men do with such a giant tote? I did some journalism work and asked some fashionable men I know what they would carry in there if they had this bag and this is what they had to say: my laptop; my gym clothes; all my hopes of ever sleeping with a woman again, since, if I were to carry this bag around, I probably won't be doing that ever again; my balls, as this thing would emasculate any man including Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington. So there you have it, this bag is functional and beautiful, if not the most manly =) I did get a suggestion that this bag would be way manlier if they wrestled and kill the python with their own bare hands first and brought the skin to Gucci for production. $4,990, available by calling 1-800-456-7663.

  • I love this bag! I just have a thing for pythons and this is absolutely gorgeous...pleasantly surprised by Gucci...i hope designers like Gucci and Dior Homme can really plant this idea in men's mind that it is totally fine and conveneient for men to carry around a bag instead of putting everything in their girlfriends' purses or just shove everything in pockets...that's just not a good look.....

But the Gucci python duffle bag is stunning! AND it's cheaper and more practical than that tote.

I don't know about python bags and gyms though...

Hmmm...now that I think about it, it looks like some sort of monstrosity Chloe might come up with...

that is a gorgeous bag but my husband would NEVER carry it. I however, think it would make a lovely carry-on bag for long flights to Europe...you could put all your mags, your laptop etc... in there easily!

  • I can't stand gucci.

I love your comments when you dont approve of something but this one (along with some nasty remarks about poor LV) is really my favorite, so far. Apart from excellent bag connaiseurs you are also brilliant writers!

The bag is fine but if you saw it being worn by a bloke, would you feel the same? Although he's probably not going to be a "bloke" at all if he's carrying this bag because, as The Bag Snob so wisely pointed out, it's definitely not manly. Putting it crudely, would you fancy a man that carried this bag? If not, does this tarnish its appeal as a bag?

I am anti-manbags generally because they're mostly plastic, ugly and over-full - witness any man who has a dirty, scruffy "laptop" bag into which he has stuffed half his life, and generally the unappetising half. There's a market for beautiful bags for men, as long as they are plain, structured and functional.

  • Yea... let's go back to hardsided briefcases. They're plain, structured, and functional. Pfft.

This will make a great diaper bag for my next baby :) Python is lighter than leather and look at all those pockets!

What are you all smoking? NO MAN WOULD USE THIS. Professional Men put things in BRIEFCASES. Male Students use BACKPACKS. Overweight Amercian Male Tourists use FANNYPACKS. And also it costs FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!! A man could buy a new laptop, a PS3, an XBOX360 and a shiny new plasma screen TeeVee with that kind of money. I'll keep my manly leather Samsonite Briefcase thank you.
