Gryson Must Have Tote

There is too much detail and then there is just boringly plain but a true designer in the sense that he/she is an artist knows just how much to put in and when to stop. Here is an example of a bag with a distinct look but is refreshing because of the lack of clutter. This is also one of those all around great bags for those who are looking for the bag, the one bag that will serve many purposes. Joy Gryson was the one behind Marc Jacobs when his bags caused women all around the world to act like little children at the toy store and the “it” factor we loved about MJ back then is clearly demonstrated in her new collection. And remember when MJ’s were less than $1000? Well, Joy knows her market, this bag is $995 at Bergdorf Goodman.

If you think the era of personal customer service is over, you haven’t dealt with Gryson yet. Joy and her husband Peter really understand the needy nature of customers in the luxury market and have stepped up and well over the plate to accommodate. Read an email we received after the jump.

Dear Bag Snob,

I just found your site and love it. I wanted to tell you about an incident that happened to me last week. I heard about a bag I wanted in the 2007 Spring Gryson line, and the boutique I favor could not promise one would be available, and they had not ordered this particular bag. Since I had just received Gryson’s email re: Spring line, I called and asked about the availability of the bag and to my dismay was told very few were made as they are stringent regarding the leather quality/color. The gentleman on the line went all out to locate this bag for me; when asking with whom I was speaking, he said Peter Gryson – talk about a laid back, kind and humble man. This cinched it for me, they are first class, they care about their customers and every email I have written to them has been answered. Their support staff is outstanding. If this kind of concern and care was offered by more companies, the world would be a better place. Gryson confirmed my handbag purchases for years to come.

Respectfully,

M.P.

I think the Gryson site is full of really impressively made and beautiful bags. I purchased the Olivia last fall and am totally spoiled by how easy it has made dragging tons of stuff with me around Manhattan all day (we Manhattan girls don’t often have cars or the ability to hail a cab no matter how much leg we show). I have never gotten this kind of use out of another bag.

As if I don’t already love my bag enough I was further spoiled by the most ridiculously phenonmenal customer service by Gryson’s rep and Peter Gryson himself that I would have no hesitation to purchase again and again (and I am not easily prone to purchasing bags over $500). The bags are superbly constructed (you won’t understand until you actually hold one and flip it all inside out and marvel at the stitching and the leather) and I find they are in a class of quality that even the really high price point bags don’t meet. You will under no circumstance get this kind of craftsmanship or service from any other company at this price point and quite often not at the higher price points either.

Honestly, best bags out there. And beautiful. Can’t wait to buy one of the push lock totes. To anyone even thinking about it: do it. You will not regret it, except that it will make most of your other bags obsolete.

wow. just reading that letter made me want to hurry out and buy a bag from Gryson. I love it when you can find pieces that are fashionable and come with such a great reputation for customer service that you know it’s well worth the money spent.

There are lots of great looking bags on their website, and in lots of colors. This tote comes in several colors other than black and white, but they’re not yet selling off the website, unfortunately. They have a little clutch, the Linda, that I think is terrific–but where to get one? I hope they will start selling from the website soon–I find it frustrating to be able to “view the collection” and then not be able to acquire the bag you like.

They have some of the newer styles of Gryson at http://www.rarechic.com. I really love the Josey. It’s big but still really usable. Plus the leather only gets better with wear. Joy Gryson is on her way to stardom!
