Anna Wintour not charmed by the word "Blog"

From Page Six of the New York Post: "Anna Wintour is as picky with words as she is with her wardrobe. According to one Vogue-er, "They are expanding the Vogue Web site and getting more involved with the Internet. But Anna hates the word 'blog' so much, she refuses to call anything on her site a blog and has charged her staff with coming up with a new word that isn't as garish-sounding. She wants it ASAP - in time for launch." However, a source close to Wintour said, "Anna just doesn't want people to refer to stories as blogs, because they're not. It's an improper use of the word." A rep said, "Anna has nothing against blogs." source: Page Six.com

I agree with Ms. Wintour regarding the word "Blog". My friends and I prefer to call ourselves Online Publishers.

  • How true!! Blog is kinda like a weird word to pronounce.. B-lo-GGGG

  • She does have a point, I've always "blog" sounded like something you'd find in a used hanky! Why not use the original term "weblog" or maybe call it an "interlog"?

  • Well, fortunately enough for you all, and Mrs. Wintour of course, I come bearing good news. Blog IT IS NOT a word so you can stop fretting about it now. The term "blog" is a portmanteau, or, in other words, a blend of the words web and log (Web log). A blog is a web site where users post entries in a journal style. Maybe Queen Anna would like the CORRECT term better or she can also call it an online journal.

  • I hate that word too. I just use "website" because that's really what it is!

  • It's all so nitpicky. Does it really matter? Linguistically, blog is a real word since people all over the world use it to describe a "web log", or "online journal".

  • Pinky I guess folks are sensitive about how others view or categorize their work. I call my website a BLOGGIE...lol

  • Anna Wintour is an incredible mentour to me in my life and I find that everything she's done and continues to do is for a reason. She doesn't want it to be called a blog because that word does sound damn bad. It sounds childish and incompitent. She wants her online "publishings" to be taken as such.
