Nancy Gonzalez Raffia Croc Tote

gonzalescroctote.jpg
This simply elegant tote by Crocodile Queen Nancy Gonzalez is one of the prettiest we've ever seen from the line. Trimming the tote with metallic crocodile and chunky hardware is a surefire way to glam up raffia, a classic summer favorite. After looking at bags that weigh more than a newborn baby I am excited to find one that is light and wearable. Get your name on the list now, it's certain to sell out before the March 30 delivery date. $2,350 at Vivre

Fendi 80's Colorblock

fendicolorblock.jpg

Is this a retro bag from the 80's? Sure looks like it but guess what? It's the latest from the House of Fendi. The 80's are back again which is ridiculous considering that the 80's hasn't been gone long enough for it to keep coming back. The Spring runways showed a bunch of strappy strips of tight Alaia-esque dresses reminescent of Milla Jovovich's The Fifth Element character (which I thought was like oh my god, like totally awesome). Yes, I spent the 80's at the same mall as Moon Zappa but I've moved on. I am not one of those who hangs on to my childhood by being stuck in a time warp (acid washed, high waisted ass flattening jeans? no thanks.) Interesting bag but it's not even a current interpretation of the 80's, it's too literal.

Things that make you go hmmm- Weinstein buys Halston

harveyweinstein.jpgHalston__Really_All_Alone.jpg

Thanks to Michelle, our helpful intern, for bringing this New York Times article to our attention. Harvey Weinstein (boyfriend to Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman and one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood) has just purchased Halston, the legendary fashion brand that dressed the likes of Lauren Hutton and Bianca Jagger in Studio 54 heyday of the '70s. Touted as the best American designer in like, ever, Halston was responsible for many of the styles we still embrace today. Tamara Mellon, of Jimmy Choo fame, brought the deal to Weinstein and will provide creative direction (is there anything this chick doesn't do? I'd like her to help us brand Bag Snob, someone have her people call my people please) So how does this translate into your life and why should you care? Because Hollywood actresses will be jumping to be seen in Halston on the red carpet which means you'll be coveting it as well. I mean if your boss buys Prada wouldn't you be wearing it 24/7 too? And we heard from a very reliable source that LVMH has major stakes in Weinstein's company... hmmmmmmmmm

UPDATE:Rachel Zoe(Nicole and Lindsay former stylist) has just been tapped to join Tamara Mellon on the Halston board to lead creative direction. Another major hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Can't wait to see what they come up with, we are always in need of fodder for our site :)

Jimmy Choo Keeya Tote

jimmychookeeyatote.jpgjimmychookeeyatote2.jpg

I find this Jimmy Choo Keeya tote very appealing, the subtle metallic color is absolutely gorgeous and the leather detail is funky and interesting on a simply designed tote. It kind of resembles woven leather but upon closer inspection, it's slashed in a very punk rock and fun way, not a crazy way that we've come to associate with Jimmy Choo bags. Actually, you would never guess it was from Jimmy Choo until you see the engraved metal hardware. Two side pockets and three divided interior compartments also make it easy to stay organized while looking impossibly chic. A great summer travel bag for trips to Portofino or St. Tropez. At Net-A-Porter for $1,395

(Bag Snob would like to correct a statement made in an earlier article about Sandra Choi being the designer behind Jimmy Choo bags. She is only responsible for the fabulous shoe collection, which you all know we adore.)

Chloe Fall 2007

(Introducing: Guest Blogger Bag Whore- Fashion Editor of one of the largest publications in the world who entertains herself by writing for Bag Snob anonymously!)

This is the Bag Whore and one of my first assignments was to report on the debut Chloe collection by Paulo Melim Andersson-who comes to us from the majorness of Marni. My report is simple: it sucked. It actually sucked ass. What a complete disappointment. I'm actually in pain saying this. I don't know what happened but obviously someone was overthinking or underthinking what the look should be. There's nothing highly covetable. It all looks like stuff you would find at Mandee's. I just can't see anyone fawning over this stuff. I can't even give it up to the Teen Vogue girls to be motivated...

Pimp your Maserati with Ferragamo custom bags!

maserati.jpg
Fast cars and lux bags are de rigeur for the modern woman, so it makes sense that Ferragmo would create a set of bags retrofitted for your new Maserati. The travel set will include suitcase, weekender, garment bag, beauty case, and shoe case/duffle bag, all to perfectly fit inside the trunk of the new Maserati. The design is inspired by the car's front radiator Ferragamo's men's wear designer, Massimiliano Giornetti. The custom made set will be available in two materials: The Firenze-hand treated calf in blackamoor or Maserati's iconic blue ($9,621 for 5 piece set) or The Modena- scratch resisitant calf hide in black or eggplant with contrasting stitches ($8,966 for 5 piece set)

You'll be able to order the complete set or any number of pieces, which takes 3 months to complete. The car, $150,000, will be available at Maserati dealerships around the world and the bags will also be available through Ferrgamo flagship stores. The idea of having a set of luggage to perfectly fit in my trunk is very appealing but I wish they'd do it with the Range Rover cuz there's no way I'm giving up my big car.

Taiwan's Eastern Times newspaper re-printed our article on the LV Tribute Patchwork bag last week, causing our traffic to more than double. No surprise that there are lots of Bag Snobs in Taiwan, where the Bag Snob girls were born. Of all the press we've received to date, getting a shoutout from the motherland has made us most proud! We are very excited to have so many new Taiwanese readers- welcome!

Best Buddies

ebuds.gifA dear friend of mine, Kimberly Schlegel Whitman, asked me to participate in an event she is hosting for the Best Buddies program and I immediately agreed to get involved after visiting the website. It is a program that enhances the lives of intellectually disabled people by providing opportunities for one-on-one friendship and social interaction. When people with intellectual disabilities are unable to attain or maintain a job, it is most often due to an absence of social skills rather than an inadequacy to perform the work required. By signing up for the e-Buddy program, you would communicate with your Best Buddy by email and allow them an opportunity to interact with someone wonderful, YOU!

I would love for ALL of you to join me in this very worthy cause and sign up for a Best Buddy or make a DONATION. It would take minutes for you to be involved and it could change someone's life forever. And please pass this on to all of the best buddies in your life!

Thank you...

Louis Vuitton Fall 2007

lvblackpatent.jpglv20071.jpglv20073.jpglv20074.jpg

Look at the beautiful clothes that floated down the runway at Louis Vuitton's Fall 2007 show in Paris this weekend. Does it look like the work of the man responsible for this revolting bag? Marc Jacobs truly perplexes me, I was a fan back in college when I purchased a Perry Ellis by Marc Jacobs jacket(it still sits in my closet today by the way) and I've followed him faithfully ever since but recent years had me doubting his sanity. This collection, however, restores my faith in MJ. And the bags, are my eyes seeing these photos properly? Are those bags really from LV? I can not remember the last time they showed bags that didn't induce convulsions from the Bag Snobs. Check Style.com for complete collection. And I'm serious, I may be in the market for a structured LV bag come fall.
