Vivienne Westwood Red Label bags

viviennewestwood.jpgI got a headache the minute I laid eyes on the Kate bag from Vivienne Westwood. The multi chains dripping down the bag and on the handles, the UFO charm, the leather heart toggle, and the busy motif on the bag itself is too much even for Westwood. Known for her theatric brilliance on runways and off, I've always enjoyed her quirkiness but this bag is unforgivable. I imagine it is a reflection of her mind, full of fantastical ideas and artistic impressions which work on canvas but not on a bag. Take off the charms and multi chains and you have an interesting interpretation of the classic Chanel bag but still not something that would ever be seen on my arm. $895 at Net-a-Porter.

  • These both look like Juicy Couture and we all know that's never ok.

  • I just can't get over Judy Jetson! That's going to have me giggling alllllllll night! I know why they do, but I don't always feel that every fashion house should have a line of bags. I adore Viv and have coveted her fashions for years, but have never been too keen on the bags. Better luck next time. Long live Viv! Brook , London

  • Oh dear. I couldn't figure the 2nd bag out at all! As how singaporeans would put it "take that thing away from me lah!"

  • BTW: That's not a UFO. It's her logo, some take on the British scepter I think...

  • Yes, that's rigtht about the logo/sceptre. How can she get it so right with her clothes and so wrong with the bags?! Some of her other accessories are fun though.

  • How sad-the "Kate" bag could have been a classic! The patterned leather is beautiful but the whole chain thing turns it into "Coco Chanel meets the Hells Angels".

As for the "Starboard", maybe that's the side of the boat you should throw it overboard from?

  • I have the starboard bag in brown. But I am 21 so it looks great and I can get away with it. Vivienne Westwood will be a forever young label..(along with juicy couture which I also have in my collection). I appreciate viv's bags wont be to everyone's taste and deffinately suit younger, fashion forward and more individual characters.

  • I have the katie bag. Its great! But then I think fashion is about being fun and enjoying yourself, not to be taken too seriously etc etc. Perhaps if you are young and have young attitude its more for you.... a bit like the dame herself!

  • goodness, how do you open them. do they open?
