I loved this bag at first sight and loved it even more when I heard the name. Givenchy's Nightingale is nothing short of fabulous. The dark silver metallic ostrich leg handle lends a modern twist to an otherwise classic shape and very simple bag. I played around with it and it was really light which makes it a great everyday bag to knock around in. It is one of those bags that will go with everything so you don't have to think much about it. Dress it down or glam it up, you'll look chic no matter what you wear it with. Can I say again how much I love the metallic python detail? It's subtle enough that you won't look like a Vegas showgirl but substantial enough to stand out. And the price is not bad for an exotic $1,895 at Barneys New York. Call 469.221.4725 to purchase!

  • The silver python is the absolute most! It's very subtle and striking at the same time. It was the first thing making my heart bounce when I saw this bag. Why don't they make another version completely in the silver python?? It would be so fab! Brook , London

  • This sure is fab!
I like the dark/shimmery color of this bag.
The phone number's area code looks familiar =) hahaha I live in Dallas, too.
Don't you just love the new Barneys New York @ NorthPark?

  • You guys must go see this bag in person! It's stunning!!! There is a travel strap to carry on the airplane The gun metal python is TO DIE. If I didn't have the Dior and Bottega already on order I'd get this. I am showing self restraint for the time being....

This would work in the Fall too so maybe I'll get it at the end of summer :)
    xoxo

  • can you carry it on your shoulder? It looks so light. I wonder how large it is in proportion to one's body. I read about your pink BV and the re-dying BV has to do before shipping it out. I am in love with that bag.

  • It's not that big, maybe 12-13 inches in width. I am really petite and it looked okay on me! Go check it out at Barneys North Park and tell them Bag Snob sent you :)

    xoxo

  • Wow I have been holding my breath for the past few weeks hoping you wouldn't post this bag! At least not until I got my hands on it! I guess it is just to fabulous for the expert bagsnob eye to miss =). I first fell in love with it on the runway back in August '06. Ever since I spotted it available at Barneys.com about a month ago I have been drooling (and saving because I am a 20 year old college student). I am planning to make the purchase of the black metallic you pictured in 2 weeks, but now that all the bagsnob readers have spotted it I hope it is is still available!!! Luisaviaroma.com has the NIGHTINGALE in black patent in the MAXI,MEDIUM, and MINI size as well. What do you think of the patent version?

  • The Givenchy Nightingale is exactly what I meant when I talked about a bag with clean classic lines but a chic, feminine twist. That is one gorgeous bag.

  • the trim is not python, it's ostrich leg.

  • Ostrich leg? Interesting.... it looked so much like python when I saw it. I just called Barneys and double checked, the salesperson assured me it is python., I will do some more sleuthing. Thanks!

  • I'm a picky kind of bag girl - but this one is a stunner. Love that it's so...plain!

  • ooh... it ADORABLE! the name is too cute!

  • This bag is so fabulous! I live in San Francisco where there is no Barneys yet. Can someone has seen this bag clarify what color the python portion is for the brown and black bags respectively? I can't decide which color would look best.

    Thank you!

  • 24x7 shopgirl, I dig your name :)

I just saw the brown with bronze trim and it is TO DIE. It is so stunning, I want one!
Call Barneys New York in Dallas, ask for Nina and tell her you saw it on Bag Snob :) 469.221.4725

  • I don't know-the shape reminds me a little too much of my husband's bowling bag.

  • Bag Snobs,

Help!! After two weeks of the flu (and I spent many a minute reading your blog) I ventured out to Barney's today. I allow myself one bag purchase per season. I am torn...it is between the Nightingale in the gold -yes, and it is beautiful-, and the Lanvin Hero in the amber. I can only afford one. I repeat...help!

    Thanks

  • Hi Sue,
As much as I love the Lanvin, I have to advise you to go with the Givenchy nightingale in bronze. It is so stunning! Did you go to the North Park Barneys? If so, plesase tell them Bag Snob sent you :)

The hero is gorgeous but not as easy to use everyday as the Nightingale. I am certain you will get more use out of it! The bronze will be fabulous in summer with white, orange, coral, pink, brown, any color actually! And it will take you into the fall....

    Good luck!

  • Bag Snob,

Thanks so much for your quick and thoughtful response. The Nightingale I saw is pictured on the Barney's web site as a medium metallic. Is this the color you are refering to as bronze, or do you like the brown (as seen on your blog)? The black does not show off the handles nearly as well as the other two color choices. Besides...I already own far too much black. I've decided that a metallic bag is the way to go this s/s season.

I am in Boston, and went to the new Barneys here at Copley. The sales associate's name is Paula P, and, poor baby, she is now coming down with the flu as well. She told me that Reese Witherspoon just ordered the metallic nightingale and the other Givenchy bag ( doubled folded, flap front, with a rectangular metal buckle) the other day. Nice going Reese!
    Thanks again

  • I MUST HAVE! Do you recommend the medium or the large? Also, do you think I should invest in the black or the metallic gold one since spring is coming up. I might end up spending most of summer in an orange goyard st. louis...will the gold be out of style by next season. Advice needed asap! Thanks.

  • please help! there are no measurements on the barney's site - how big are the medium and large? and what color are the handles on the bronze? it only pictures the gold!

  • There is a thread about this bag on www.thefashionspot.com I'm debating this bag in plain black, I too can only have one bag pr. season will it still stand out enough in just black calf leather?

There is also a gorgeous patent blue!

  • Anonymous,

I went with the BS's advice and finally bought my bag this week at Barneys. I had to at least wait for the purple card promo! I got it in bronze, and I love it. It is also great in black, with the python handles. The large size is too large, but the medium is perfect. It's great for day into night.

I think the plain black isn't festive enough. If you are going to spend this type of cash, go for the python. The handles in black are a silvery grey...beautiful! BTW, the ostrich handles are with the non-metallic version.

  • Just got this bag from my fiance as a gift! In gold metallic....LOVE IT---will work with summer and fall and possibly into winter if metallic is still in.

  • someone, please help!!

i am a deep lover of givenchy, especially their leather goods. i have been thinking of purchasing this bag for myself, but am unsure as to whether it will work on me or not. you see, my predicament is that i am male!! there are two givenchy bags which i am pondering to purchase; this lovely nightingale, or the just-as-lovely shopping 'tote'.
which would work best? which, in any expert opinion, would best suit a man's figure. sure, i could always purchase a bag made for men by givenchy, but, well, i find them so terribly unattractive.
please, someone help me before these bags are discontinued!!!

    +Z~

  • Hi everyone... This really is a timeless bag !

I have just gone on the Barney's website.
This bag is available for 1695 USD.

Is it the same one mentioned here ??
( The website says the colour is KHAKI... ?? )

Could anybody please let me know... ... ??
I have a friend coming in from the US in a week, I want her to get it !

Thanks... This site is great, I've got the world in my bag !
    Loves, Rhea.

  • I just bought the givenchy in medium, the low key version in completely black and I think it was worth the hassle. I live in europe and ordered through paris. It's great, great, great. And it drives all the ladies over here insane not having one yet. And no, I disagree the complete black version is a classic. No fashionjunkie- stuff - it's for every woman who stands out of the masses and considers herself as someone with a message. "I've got class, style and grace. Attributes one can't buy!"

  • my mum went to new york for a shopping trip and got me this bag in the black and the large size. at first i wasnt really into it but as i always have so much stuff with me for college its turned out to be a really good school bag and wherever i go i always get asked where its from and get admiring looks. turns out my mum didnt have as bad taste as i thought!! to anyone pondering over size and colour i think the black maxi is the perfect size if you always have loads of stuff (magazines, diary, sidekick and other stuff) and the shoulder strap comes in so helpful when you do fill it but that isnt often as its so big!! another reason to purchases is its so rare i havnt seen anybody else with it!!!!!! i love this bag soo much!!!

  • By an incredible stroke of luck, I won a raffle for a $1000 giftcard to Barney's. I'm going to put it towards a fabulous purse, and I wanted to get a second opinion. I'm deciding between the Givenchy Small Patent Nightingale or the Medium Grained Nightingale. I definitely want black. Any thoughts? Thank you!

  • Apparently, I have been living under rock! I just saw this post and I love this bag! Can you tell me where I can purchase the black in medium without the ostrich handles? I checked the Barney's website and don't see this version. Thanks!

  • hi bagsnobs,, ive been contemplating to get this bag for a while now.. im just not sure about the sizing.. do you hav any approximation how wide easch sizes are-small, medium, large, maxi? cheers!! L, sydney

  • where can i get this bag in nyc other than barneys? they only have the large ones.... ???
