Fendi Bag du Jour

fendihideous0107.jpgfendihideoscrown.jpg

Mel from Tokyo, a loyal Bag Snob reader since Day 1, alerted me to this Fendi bag last week. At first I thought my near sightedness was back even though I had Lasik 8 years ago and have had 20/20 vision ever since. I looked at it from all angles and zoomed in on every corner of the bag to make sure I was seeing correctly. Sure enough, there is nothing wrong with my vision. It really is a ghastly concoction of multi colored canvas, rope, lizard, patent leather, and Fendi plaque, all topped off with a giant gaudy yellow crown. Why, Fendi, why do you continue assaulting us with these ridiculous and horrendous bags? And naming it "Bag du Jour" is not going to entice anyone to buy it, cuz if being fashionable today means I have to be seen with this hideous bag, I don't want to be of the moment. I'd rather be so last season and use my Pierre Hardy besace bag, the "Bag du Hier". And the design isn't the only appalling thing, the price is just as ridiculous. It's $1910 on sale for $1377 at eLuxury!

Bag Snob was accredited once again to cover the shows at Bryant Park and invitations have started arriving since early January but unfortunately neither of us can make it :( Kelly is going to our college best friend's wedding in Hawaii (Congrats Creighton!) where I should be as well but I have family issues to tend to so I won't be in Hawaii nor New York in Feb.

But no worries, my fabulous Web Snob partners (Rachel, Stella, Lauren, and Lesley) will keep me updated during the week with photos and reviews! Here is the schedule for the MB fashion week so you have something to look forward to!

Bottega Spring 2007 Essentials

My sweet friend Cat brought me a stack of magazines over the holidays and the minute I opened Vanity Fair and saw these Bottega ads I flipped out. She predicted she'd be reading about it in Bag Snob and she was right. I know I've often said I don't like to promote ads here but this is just so divine I had to share. Look at these fabulous Bottega bags and dresses! Tomas Maier is starting to rank up there with Elber and Miuccia for me. Do you not want to run to the Bottega store right now and buy them? I love the feminine silhouette of both dresses, as my friends would say, they are so ME! And the bags, pink woven leather strips of gorgeousness and lush gray crocodile, can you say mine mine mine? I am of the age where I only want to buy special pieces and these dresses and bags are special baby! The bags will be my staples this spring if I can get my hands on them and I will wear the dresses everywhere. Call Bottega Venetta stores 310-858-6533 or check their online boutique.

Kelly and I went to New York one summer during college when we first met and I noticed her mask-like make up for the first time while standing on Fifth Avenue in the glaring August sun. I immediately dragged her to the nearest cosmetic counter at Bergdorfs and said to the sales associate "Can you help her please? She looks like she's wearing a mask"! His reponse to her was "I hope she's either your sister or your best friend because that's the only people you should take that kind of abuse from". Well, we've been best friends ever since and have shared all of our beauty secrets with each other through the years. She stood by me as I insanely bought 20 bottles of a Shu Uemera foundation that was to be discontinued and I supported her through her "eyebrow" crisis. We have scoured departments stores in Hong Kong, New York, Tokyo and back for the best cleansers and lipglosses (which we'll share on Beauty Snob) and we even made our own nail polish when we could not find the perfect shade! To say we're Beauty Snobs would be an understatement so we felt it was time to share our secrets with the world! Check out our sister site often for all things to bring out the Beauty in you.

A New Way to Shop at Net A Porter

napexplore.jpg

How considerate of Net-a-Porter to think of ways to simplify our online shopping experience. Check out the latest "Explore" page. You can view dozens of bags at once and click on the ones you like, similar bags to the one you chose will appear on the new page. Rollover the image of the bag you like to enlarge it, and click on the little icon next to it to see details and to purchase. It's absolutely brilliant and will save you hours each week to read Bag Snob! Have fun shopping!

If it weren't for this new feature, I michaelkors011807.jpgnever would have discovered this Michael Kors cream leather tote (will be a great beach bag for our upcoming trip to Hawaii). Sure it's a bit boring, but I'll take boring anyday over this 8 pound monstrosity. $795 at Net A Porter.

Lanvin Silver Hero

Lanvin Silver Hero is impossibly chic and just exudes style and polish. You all know how I adore Alber Elbaz, he has seriously never disappointed me. Whether it be dresses (my Lanvin spring dresses are starting to arrive at Barneys! Just picked up the ivory one today), bags, belts, or killer cone heels, Lanvin is the ultimate for me. What other designer delivers on every aspect of it's line? Hermes has it's iconic birkins but the Gaultier designed clothes are so boring, Chanel bags are the good ol' classics but the clothing of late lack inspiration (I mean how many little Chanel tweed jackets do I need? They all look alike after a while), Fendi should have stuck with the ever popular baguette instead of a slew of hideous self proclaimed "it" bags (although I love it's line of clothes by Karl), everyone agrees that Jimmy Choo shoes are fab but the bags should not be seen in the light of day, and Valentino, well you guys knows how we feel about it's line of bags. But Lanvin, Lanvin is magical, and yes, I am biased but don't tell me this bag doesn't make you want to whip out your Amex! We love the chunky chain links, it's more youthful and fresh than classic chain straps and it modernizes the traditional baguette shape. We also love the buttery soft metallic silver lambskin, think of silver as the new black in your bag wardrobe and wear it with everything! $1,200 At Barneys New York Dallas 469-221-4723 (The best staffed and stocked Barneys store, including the very dapper Jackson, Barneys' Personal Concierge who can get you just about anything your heart desires)

edidi Crystal Mesh Clutch

edidi0101.jpg
edidi01072.jpgWendy Lau's exquisite line of bejeweled bags has been appearing everywhere since we first featured it last year. From A-list Hollywood stars to hipster young models, it's obvious everyone has fallen in love with this collection of unusual and charming bags. One of our absolute favorites is the Crystal Mesh Clutch. The delicate design of crystals on silver-plated mesh is reminisicent of vintage jewelry but it avoids being too kitschy and overdone with the modern box shape. Each sparkling edidi bag is painstakingly handcrafted in New York and should be treated as a piece of jewelry. This extraordinary jewel of a bag is available at Browns London for 2,550 pounds. ($4,947USD).
