Rodo Lindsay Evening Bag

rodolindsay.jpg

A bag made for the modern day Holly Golightly, Rodo's Lindsay is an elegant interpretation of the classic sea shell shaped evening bag. We love the delicate interlinking silver and gold links, having both colors makes it so much easier when choosing other accessories. The lush chocolate metallic suede in delicate folds is a gorgeous alternative from the usual silk or beaded evening bag. Rodo, the first two letters of founder Romauldo Dori's first and last name, is sought after by Hollywood A-listers both on the red carpet and off. Known for creating luxurious goods since 1956, this is a design house that keeps control of it's quality by keeping it in the family. Rodo's son, Maurizio, is the current creative director and we are glad to see he is keeping up his father's high standards. $675 at Net-a-porter.

We Need to Stop Making Fun of Him

Marc Jacobs had a premonition dream that we'd all forget his name so he decided to emblazon his name in gold bedazzles on quilted nylon, no less, so that his work can be seared into our minds forever. Someone had commented that the shopping bag looked like a Lancome gift with purchase but NOOOO! THIS is more like a cheesy gift with purchase. I know we're totally on his case but this just can't be ignored. Tote is $695, satchel $675 at eLuxury.

denisesilkwrap.jpgCalypso's wrap dresses have become wardrobe staples and the latest version in blush pink silk is girly glam and a pretty color on all skin tones. Those of you lucky enough to be heading to warm weather this holiday need to grab one of these easy to pack dresses. It is flattering on everyone, the high waist is also perfect to wear as a maternity dress. A bargain for $235 at NAP

miumiudrawstring.jpgNo outfit is complete without a great bag, check out Miu Miu's latest trendsetter, the drawstring bag in pale nude distressed leather. Husband Helpers

Every Christmas Bag Snob is besieged with phone calls and emails from frantic husbands trying to find the perfect bag for their wives. One year a Hollywood producer called me while standing bewildered in Gucci, producing blockbuster movies that have raked in over $200 million he can handle (The Rookie, The Miracle, and this year's The Invincible with Mark Wahlberg), but deciding between a tote or evening clutch? Clueless! This year, I received the most fabulous request, a husband who not only wanted a great bag for his wife, but a husband who insists that the bag be none other than the highly coveted Hermes Birkin! Now that's what I call a keeper :) After many phone calls and visits to Hermes in Beverly Hills, New York, and Highland Park, I finally found one that is perfect for his wife. In a divine shade of Vert Fonce (a very rare and hard to get color) with palladium hardware, this is a gem that I thought of keeping for myself. (You'd think with six birkins and two kelly bags I'd be satisfied but Hermes is a like a drug and it is never enough, I think it's something they put into the leather that's so addictive.) Of course I did the right thing and sent the birkin off to it's new owner's anxious husband. I know it is going to a good home and I'll be able to visit often. :)

Valentino Bags Miss the Mark

valentinostudded.jpgvalentinocavallino.jpgvalentinocrochetframe.jpgvalentinolace.jpg

Valentino Garavani, undeniable one of the most glamorous and well respected designers of our time suprisingly falls short with his bag collection. For someone who once chided Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz as looking like "bag ladies" for wearing "jogging trousers" and "appearing homeless", you would think that everything that has his name on it must meet the star quality standards he implores. I imagine his clientele; they are not the hipsters who buy Balenciaga or Chloe, they are the Birkin and Chanel 2.55 bunch who uses Tod's totes for their dry cleaning. That is why this studded tote is completely baffling - it misses both those markets. Same with the tasteless leopard print tote. These bags look like they are targeting lottery winners. They are certainly not for the same women who wear his gowns and suits. I am really disappointed because unlike, say Marc Jacobs, I expect perfect taste and style from Valentino. Studded Tote $1950, Cavallino Maculato Leopard Print Tote $2450; Crocheted Satin Frame Bag $2290; Lace and Leather satchel $1890, all available at Neiman Marcus.

Midnight Holiday Party

You don't have to wear black to a cocktail party, we hardly ever do. But that's not to say you should wear gold and red either, that kind of standing out is not what we want. Subtle midnight is just the right call for a holiday function and this Moschino dress is girly and flirty without looking like you're trying to be a 2 star hotel chain heiress. And can you think of anything better to wear with it than this B. Romanek lizard clutch in midnight? Appropriately named Lizzy, this clutch is the newest from the burgeoning talent and we predict it will sell better than her breakout rockstar crocodile clutch. Best of all, both of these are sensibly priced, Moschino dress on sale at Net-a-Porter for $717 (from $1195); and the Lizzy, regular price is only $815 at LuxCouture (current stock is in chocolate, midnight will be available soon) - don't forget Bag Snob fans get 25% with coupon code: BAGSNOB. You know the Bag Snobs always help you save when we can because being a snob certainly doesn't mean spending foolishly.
