Ghurka Ka

ghurka.jpg

What's the meaning of all those pockets? They remind me of those cartoon aliens with 3 eyes. And it's got all those gross studs and weird zipper teeth detail along the top. Hideous. And brown suede with gold metallic is so K-Mart. Can someone please make nice new bags so we can be nice? Ghurka hobo sold at Neiman Marcus.

Britney Needs to go Shopping

emiliopuccihalter.jpgNow that Britney has her life in order, she needs to call her stylist back. What is she wearing here? Is it a skort? It is ill-fitting and looks polyester and has a gross big plastic belt riding up her torso. If she is trying to show off her body, maybe she should wear something flattering. This Emilio Pucci halter with the links detail on the neckline would be an verawangbubblehem.jpgappropriate choice, it's fun, cute and sophisticated and is short enough to show off her great legs without being so cheap about it. Or if she wants to draw in her waist, instead of wearing a big stupid belt, this Vera Wang empire waist is incredibly flattering and adds lift to her post pregnancy breasts. We're just saying, cute body with ugly clothes is like cute guy with no job. It's just a waste, that's all.

Balenciaga Edition Bag

Balenciaga "Edition" Bag Fall 2006. Balenciaga Brooch circa 1968

If you have not seen the Balenciaga "Edition Series" of ready-to-wear, jewelry, and handbags you are missing out on an important chapter of fashion history. Nicolas Ghesquiere recreated pieces from Cristobal Balenciaga's archives dating from 1954-1968 with brilliant interpretations that honor the couturier's vision with modern sensibilities. I have had my eye on this gorgeous wristlet bag with crystal pin for weeks now. The 2006 version is on the left, the original pin on right. My Bag Snob partner talked me out of getting it and I find myself thinking about it everyday. It's a perfect blend of an old classic frame bag with a current wristlet strap which takes the bag from "old lady" to "modern chic". The brooch is a beautiful complement to the aged chocolate leather and really makes this bag a collector's piece. Surprisingly, it's only $1590 even with the fabulous brooch, a small price to pay for a piece of fashion history. It's at my favorite store right now and calling my name every night (I am not going to tell you what store cuz there is only one bag and there are thousands of Bag Snobs reading our site daily and one of you might steal it from me!). So what do you think? A nice pre-Christmas present from me to me? And don't let the photo dimensions fool you, it's a fairly large bag that will go from day to night beautifully.

BLOG'S PURSES ARE FILLING UP
by Donna Goodison, Boston Herald, Nov. 8, 2007

They’re stay-at-home moms obsessed with designer handbags who, as a diversion, started blogging about the latest “arm candy” from the likes of Bottega Veneta, Chanel and Hermes.

Kelly Cook of Cambridge and Tina Craig of Dallas are the Bag Snobs. The 30-somethings, who met at the University of Southern California, started www.bagsnob.com just over a year ago. “When this idea came about, it was the perfect thing for us,” Cook said. “We’ve always been entrepreneurial and wanted to do something that fits our lifestyles of being moms.” Bag Snob’s mission is to help women overwhelmed with choices make informed decisions when forking over as much as $2,000 for a designer handbag.

“People really want to hear a true opinion, and we get that feedback a lot from our readers,” Cook said. “They appreciate our black-and-white views on fashion. Fashion magazines are very political.”

Cook’s fashion industry experience includes a stint with designer Mark Eisen, while Craig was a former MTV Asia veejay. But their real fashion sense comes from years of buying expensive handbags, starting as college students buying Prada bags with their parents’ credit cards.

“Tina and I would buy bags for each other, and we would tell our parents it was a gift,” Cook said. “They weren’t totally OK with it, but we thought we wouldn’t get into as much trouble.”

The bags they critique now are ones they’ve purchased or seen in stores. And they’re not timid about writing scathing reviews. “Jimmy Choo advertised with us,” Cook said. “We still ripped on the bags.”

The Versace Madness

versaceframehobo.jpg

Let me make sure I have all the details covered; twisted patent leather shoulder straps, topstitched croc stamped leather straps that fan out to the croc stamped patent leather button and studs all over. Why don't they dangle fringes, add rhinestones and embroider dinosaurs on it as well? And you know what the best part is? This isn't even a hobo, hiding inside all this craziness is a frame that opens up to a very small and flat compartment. So it's useless, ugly and pricey!! What's the redemption? OK, I guess this bag is interesting but Marilyn Manson is also interesting, proving my point that interesting is sometimes scary. I really thought Versace was turning the corner but I am obviously wrong. $3545 at eLuxury.

Wild about Thomas Wylde

thomaswylde.jpg

Former model Paula Thomas has been a lot of things: Bond girl, Playboy model, Julian MacDonald’s muse and even CEO of his company. But the one thing she has never been is unfashionable. She continues that trend with her Thomas Wylde line. You might recognize the signature skulls from the heads and arms of Hollywood’s fashion elite (her skull print scarf was everywhere in the last year and Sienna Miller rocked a Thomas Wylde dress at the Academy Awards.) The Kings Cross Skull bag is not a typical bag for the Bag Snobs but it appeals to our rebellious side. The signature skull details are subtle enough where you won’t look like you’re trying too hard (Ahem. I’m talking to you Lindsey Lohan), but they add a nice rock 'n roll twist to a classic shape and color. But buyer beware - Thomas sells her line in “limited capacity” only, and trust us, they go quickly! At Barneys for $2360.

Henry Cuir Metro Tote

henrycuirmetro.jpg

I've always liked Henry Cuir bags, I look at them every time I'm at Barneys but it wasn't until I saw this bag that love was felt and I needed to take her home. The craftsmanship is absolutely flawless and you can just sense that the entire bag was made by hand from the way it looks and feels. And how can you possibly resist the adorable embroideries? I especially love the little doggy, his name is Cane. I just can't get over how cute it is!! Unfortunately, it's not on this bag but this bag is amazing in other ways. The bordeaux is the perfect red for a bag that is practical. I love bright red bags for its boldness but the downside is that it's hard to wear. The bordeaux, however, is great for all your Fall colors and will brighten up the most drab winter days (yes, I live in the Northeast). Another thing that's great about this bag is its depth, meaning it's not an abyss into which all things disappear and not to be found when you need it. It is also wide so when you open it, you can see everything that's in there. Brilliant when you have baby socks, toys and sippy cups to sort through before you can find your makeup pouch. The quality and simplicity of this bag, with just the right amount of fun, will have you loving it forever. If you live in Japan, you can have a custom bag made with your choice of style, stitching, color and embroidery. They only take orders twice a year, June and December so it's coming up. I might have to send my friend in Japan on a shopping mission. Metro Tote $1665, available at Barneys (212.826.8900).

Winter Wonderland at Chanel

chanelwhite.jpg
My obsession with winter white continues with Chanel's latest luggage and accessories in, what else, snowy white calfskin of course! How chic will you be exiting your private jet upon arrival in Aspen or Gstaad with this to die for set of luggage from Chanel? The trolley bag, carry on travel bag, and flap bag are all made of aged calf skin so you don't have to worry about wear and tear cuz it's been professionally done for you already. The matching zip around wallet and CD case (carrying an iPod is so last season) are also a must as is this fabulous mink hat with glass stone pin. If you really want to rock it on the slopes, get the satin ski jumpsuit with matching quilted leather skis. Fierce! All at Chanel: SoHo 212-355-5050 or Highland Park 214-520-1055

Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti

Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti knows a thing or two about luxury, she grew up in Switzerland and has traveled the world since she was very young (her favorite childhood memory was of emptying toiletries from first class cabins and from maid's carts in hotels). After graduating from Barnard in 1990, she worked as an investment banker but it wasn't until she recognized the need to introduce European luxury goods to American women that Vivre was founded. And now, 10 years later, she is one of Vogue's Top Ten Stylish Women in Fashion and was dubbed "mail order magnate" by Time magazine.

Eva feels that Vivre is not about shopping or fashion, "it's about the beauty in life and the discovery of things you'll love more tomorrow than you do today". She finds treasures from around the world to share with her clients and sells one of a kind limited edition items along known brands. "There is a story and an inspiration behind each product", says Eva.
