Which bag costs more?

A )Louis Vuitton Monogram Leopard Pleated Steamer Bag- Pleated canvas (another word for plastic covered PVC), faux leopard pattern on sheared calf, golden watersnake trimmings, removable “tortoise” acrylic (also a word for plastic) chain.

B) Hermes Blue Jean Togo Birkin size 35cm in palladium hardware- 100% handcrafted togo leather, 100% handstitched, takes 30+ hours to complete.

Answer:

A.) Louis Vuitton Leopard bag $7,250

B.) Hermes Blue Jean Togo Birkin $7,100

Can you believe that a plastic bag with crazy embellishment costs more than a beautifully handcrafted leather birkin from Hermes? Now I’m certain the world has gone crazy, at least the fashion world. Somebody PLEASE stop Marc Jacobs and his evil team of assistant designers!

    I agree,

Used to be a huge MJ fan, but each season his designs for LV get scarier and scarier. What a shame

    My Darling Bag Snob,

Once again I must point out the Head Thug of LVMH is behind all of the foolishness of these appauling bags,as well as, many more most likely to come. The only way to stop this is to stop shopping the LVMH companies. Then, they might wake up and realize that the shopping public will not stand for crap disguised as couture!

    XOXO, HK

It’s a good thing I refrained from the LV boots and dress I saw at the Louis Vuitton SoHo boutique today… I was certain if they knew I was the Bag Snob they’d kick me out :) you’re right, we must put our foot down! xoxo

I do agree this is appropriate for your worst bags. What is going on with Louis Vuitton lately? The Graffiti Bag, the Murakami and the bags from 2004 were so brillant – where is that brillance now? Spring/summer 2007 is just as atrocious.

I thought that LV’s leopard collaberation was years ago with Asadine Allaya (pardon my spelling)

And that was seasons before the graffiti bags!!

I had no idea it was plastic – that LV thing – by making everything so kitch he is only making it easier for stupid China to make fakes thus fueling the whole counterfeit industry. He (Marc Jacobs) needs to focus on quality and stop trying to compete with the likes of John Galliano and Alexander Mcqueen whose crazy designs are masterpieces of artwork. Jacobs can’t cut it in that way and should stick to luxury as opposed to quiky individuality.

Besides why pay $7250 when you can pick up a fake in Hong Kong for $200 probably made better lol.

    Hi,

I’d just like to point out that even though I agree with the blogpost, Hermès is not so much better than LV. Does anyone really think they can cater to the huge number of stores they have across the globe producing everything in tiny workshops in france?

Sure, their most rare bags (Birkin, HAC, kelly basically and maybe the SOs) are handstitched and maybe made in Pantin, but when not even Mulberry, which operates on a much smaller scale cannot keep production in one factory because of a too big demand, don’t fool yourself by thinking all H products and bags are handmade 100% in france.
