Horror in Paris

Viktor and Rolf and Yohji Yamamoto

By the looks of the early shows in Paris, inspiration comes from bad horror movies. It is quite disturbing. I was literally afraid to look at some of the images. The makeup for Yohji Yamamoto reminded me of the little girl in The Ring and the entire Undercover show was inspired by the Scarecrow character in Batman Begins. I really hope things brighten up later on in the week. I don't have the stomach for this.

Fendi's Runway Accident

I would like to include in our review of Fendi's show an acknowledgement of the photographers accident, which although took away from the great show, is in and of itself a story that bears our respect. In order to allow front row attendees a comfy experience, they overcrowded the photographer's stand. The floor collapsed from under them and many photographers were seriously injured. We do not take for granted that fashion blogs would be boring and worthless if it weren't for the great photographs we get. Vogue UK has a particularly harsh story about this incident.

We love the clean lines, interesting shapes and suprising variety of this action packed collection. The Kaiser was definitely not lacking in inspiration and the brilliance was how he decided to use it all in one showing. There was a hint of military, kimono-esque dresses, modern floral shapes and a little bit of medieval glamour. It seems like there is a lot going on, but it all made sense in the way it was shown. It's elegant, young (sometimes cute), fresh and street sensible.

Ba-da-bing Gucci

Apparently the hype over the last season of "The Sopranos" has inspired Frida Giannini, head designer of Gucci, to do an entire line devoted to the mafioso wifey and stripper mistress look. There was gold lame everywhere, we had to put on our Tom Ford sunglasses to block out all that tacky shine. We predict that Carmela and all of Tony's stripper hobags will be dressed in mob appropriate Gucci garb for their final season. Seriously Frida, just cuz Gucci's owned by the mafia doesn't mean we should all dress like them.

Prada Fall 2006

It's the end of high tech futuristic, straight line designs for Miuccia. We loved it 15 years ago but now the change is welcomed, although our review is mixed. The seriousness of the strong women image is a little 80's and the fur sleeves with animal print coat is too 'Clan of the Cave Bears guest starring on Dynasty' for our taste. Bunchy poofy is the new thing (Marc Jacob's spring line) but it's not exactly flattering (whereas Marc's silhouettes still have the body in mind). I know she is trying to get away from the prissy ladylike look, and tell me if you think I'm wrong here, but we like to look feminine and slim (and the reason we pay for Prada's impeccable tailoring). On the other hand, the bunchy bags are great! We love the playful yet chic look about them. It's a good thing she didn't venture too far on the staple of super high platforms because we need them and love them, especially these open toe platform sandals (one of us, the petite Snob, needs them more than the other but the other loves to tower over people in crowds and the added height makes my shoulders seem narrower). So, as always with Miuccia, strong on accessories, hit and miss on the clothes.

Armani's Slouchy Croc

This super fab bag is fresh off the runway in Milan. Who knew Armani's got it going on in the bag department? I know we go ape shit over every croc bag, but this slouchy bag makes croc wearable for the younger, more casual crowd. This is a classic that will prove to be a worthy investment. If you are not into labels (did the Snob just say that?), you can get a look-a-like at Alexandra Knight for $5475, which is a lot less than what Giorgio has in mind.

How We Spend $10 Million

How fabulous of the Harrod's and Barney's girls at I Am Fashion to come up with this week's topic for the Carnivale of Couture.

We will start out with bags of course, the first being the diamond croc Birkin, at $80,000 even we don't own this. Let's throw in a couple of Kelly's and the red croc Birkin I've been hankering for, that's another $45,000. It would also be great to walk into Neiman's and pick out this season's trendy bags just for kicks, like the white Fendi Spy, the whole Prada's croc collection, the Chloe Edith and ALL of Marc Jacob's Fall bags. Total about $24,000.

Chanel couture is definitely second on our list of must haves. A couple of suits and an evening gown will run us a cool $400,000. And to go with all that fabulousness, we will need bling from Fred Leighton and Harry Winston, which we will allocate $1 million to. We've also come across a rare meli melo coral colored pearl necklace from Sotheby's, estimated at $1 million.

To get us around town while we shop, we will need the Aston Martin Vantage Volante DB-9 in pacific blue with connolly cream leather. Cheap at $280,000 considering we are paying more than that for 3 Chanel outfits. And when we get tired of tooting around town, we will take off in our Gulfstream V using our Marquis Jet Card (only $115,000 to have access to an entire fleet of jets) to our vacation ocean liner, The World, where we buy the 3 bedroom suite for $3,575,000. The ship even has a La Prairie spa. We can spend a whole week just getting head to toe treatments. Considering that $10 million is not quite enough to buy our own jet and the Tuscan Villa I want, this will do.

The rest of the money we will need on our daily shopping jaunts around the world.

All about Chloe

Hi,
Which colour do you think is the best colour for Edith and paddington? Also.. Is the colour craie discontinued?
It seems there are only off-white paddington out there.... and no craie. What is the difference between the two, is it just slightly different?
Joyce

Hi Joyce,
First, let me commend you on having excellent taste as these are the two most fabulous handbags right now! The Chloe Edith looks best in Whiskey as it really shows off the contrasting top stitching. As for the Paddington, the Anthracite metallic is our favorite. It's a gun metal gray and will be a neutral to go with everything in your closet plus it can be used as an evening bag. The craie is an ashier color than the off-white but there is not much difference. Check with Net-a-porter often for more anthracite Paddingtons and whiskey Edith bags.
