The State of Fashion #2

Alexander McQueen's Puffy Shirt and John Galliano "Adventure Driven Man"

Just for kicks, let's check out what is happening in menswear for Fall 2006. Hmmmm, let's see..... yup, as I suspected, nothing new. Just the same old stuff with added twists to "shock" us on the runway, but not really. Here are a few goodies to muse on or chuckle at, whatever entertains you. I was trying to find hotties just for some eye candy, but of course runway models are.. how do I put it..... skinny and gay looking. Let's get to my point, Fall 2006 will not be a year known to have revolutionized fashion in any way. We got a preview of Valentino's fall collection and this is what we got. Uh, didn't Cindy Crawford wear this red gown in 1984?

The Denim Spy

In keeping with our consistency of featuring every single version of the Spy Bag available, here it is in denim. In general, denim bags are totally trailer trash but with all the detailings in the embroidery on this Denim Spy, it just makes it all the more decadent (especially when it's $3,090 for a denim bag)! And you know us, we bathe in decadence. (But it's all in the details, I tell you, because the Hobo Denim Spy is just trashy and should not be confused with what we are talking about here, although we would never seriously carry a denim bag). Fendi Bags are available at eLuxury.

Finally! The Spy Bag in a smaller version for everyday use (and for those of us who are not vertically blessed at 5'11"). This is still a roomy bag at 14" wide and the honey leather is the perfect neutral shade for spring. Snatch it up quickly before eLuxury sells out! Ashley Olsen take note, your bag shouldn't fit you AND your twin even if she is anorexic. $1,300 at eLUXURY.

The State of The Fashion Union

Gauging from the current state of the fashion industry, like Nicole Richie's ads for Jimmy Choo, Lindsay Lohan posing for Chanel, Mischa Barton at the Dior Couture show, Victoria Beckham at the Chanel Couture show, Madonna at the Jean Paul Gaultier show and Balenciaga doing maternity for Gwenyth Paltrow, I am going to make some predictions. Lil' Kim will be the new spokesmodel for Prada, Star Jones Reynolds will pose for Armani's new ads campaign and Vera Wang will have an entire maternity bridal line. This is what we have come to? Please try make us believe the fantasy and glamour that fashion still embodies.

Chanel Spring 2006 Haute Couture

Yes, we like to make fun of the Kaiser but his couture runway show at the Grand Palais in Paris was nothing short of genius. OK, so no bags were shown, but we give props when props are in order. The spiral staircase is what you would expect from Karl, over the top (indeed!). He made Coco proud by modernizing her asthetics, like showing the collection in go-go boots similar to the ones she wore in the 50's (yes, 50's not 60's). His collection was black and white and had all the classics you would expect from the House of Chanel. What we love are all the camellias and organdy and satin details he does so well to give that girly flair without looking like a birthday cake. What I wouldn't do to lay down $500K to update my wardrobe. Ahhh, there is nothing so fabulous as haute couture!!

The Carnivale Continues...Stranded on an Island Party

Carnivale of Couture #3 - Hosted by Shangri Law

Let's see, what would The Bag Snob need if stranded at a lifelong party on a tropical island? A lifetime supply of Cristal champagne is definitely on top of our list. A great bag is also in order cuz you won't be able to buy new bags if you're stuck on an island for life. We would bring along our 35cm Hermes Birkin in blue jean - a classic for a lifetime. It's also a great color for the tropics and big enough to fit all these fashion items that we simply can not live without:

The next "IT" bag?

Dear Bag Snob,

What do you think the next "IT" bag of the season will be? Also what colours are going to be big this year?

Thanks.
Angela

Hi Angela,

The Chloe Edith is poised to be the big "It" bag of the season. Especially with the departure of head designer Phoebe Philo, it is sure to become a collector's item alongside the iconic Paddington. We are also predicting lots of soft and muted colors for the year, no more tacky loud fuschia or purple bags, it's all about classic ladylike shapes and colors and smaller bags. White is a hot color for bags this spring as are nude and beige colors. We love this beige kelly croc, it's a classic little bag but will instantly update your wardrobe.

2006 Golden Globes Fashion Review

The Golden Globes fashion, in short, was frilly, ruffly and in desperate need of some hairspray and a bra. Here is our recap. And yes, the Shit List is longer because it's just more fun to make fun.

Our Golden Globe “It” List

Evangeline Lilly wins the best dressed award. The Elie Saab empire waist emerald gown made her look like a goddess. Her makeup, hair, everything - flawless.

Our Golden Globe “Shit” List

alanis morrisette.jpg
You date a hot young guy and you’re bound to feel the pressure. So what did Alanis Morissette do? She went and dyed her hair yellow and made like she’s a high school surf betty. If you want to look young when you’re sagging, don’t wear strapless with no support.

CARNIVALE OF COUTURE #2

Inappropriate Gold Digging Attire
When did "cocktail attire" mean 7 jeans? Jeans with a lingerie tank top are NOT the new LBD. Middle aged women with saggy arms and paunchy stomachs wearing tight jeans and lacy camisoles to cocktail parties and formal dinners make me want to gag. The OC has inspired mothers around the country to dress like their 15 year olds and it is not a pretty sight. As Oscar de La Renta said, there is no true style or fashion out there anymore. Remember, denim was invented for gold diggers in the wild west, apparently modern gold diggers have embraced it as their uniform as well.

Underwear as Accessory
Don't have your underwear or g-strings hangin' out of the top of your jeans, its tasteless and trashy even if you are 18 and hot. And if you wear those thong embellishments you dangle over the jeans, you should be dancing at Ba-da-bing.

Hello!! You're Wearing Your Entire Closet
Sienna-miller-24-10thompson-street.jpg
I saw a girl wearing a Victorian blouse with a bohemian skirt, slouchy boots, an arm full of Indian bangles, a giant Moroccan belt, and gypsy hair. Oh yeah, it was Sienna Miller. She looked schizo. One trend at a time, please!!

These Boots Are Made For Dim Wits
Lindsay%20Lohan%20and%20Nicole%20Richie%2022-.jpgcowboyboots.jpg
Cowboy boots with mini skirts, prairie dresses or shorts is just dumb, even for Jessica Simpson. And Nicole Richie. And Lindsay Lohan. And especially Mischa Barton cuz moccasin boots are even dumber.
